Blue Trail Loop (Connecticut) 21-Jul-2019

We were back East to attend the wedding of one of our nephews in Providence, Rhode Island. After that, we repaired to The LovedOne’s sister’s house in Connecticut for further family festivities. The weather for the wedding itself had been great. But as soon as the nuptials were concluded, a high pressure dome settled in. The temperature and humidity each soared into the 90s – breaking some records along the way! We’d lived in Tennessee years ago but I’d forgotten (or repressed) how much I hated humidity. Still we thought we could get in a really short hike first thing in the morning without drowning in our own sweat.

So we picked (from REI’s HikingProject) an easy 1.2 mile loop on the Blue Trail in the nearby Hatchetts Hill Preserve. We strolled through a lushly leafed summer forest, staying on the trail to minimize the possibility of encountering deer ticks 👿 – which have become something of a scourge in the East. We dodged the ticks (we think) and, despite the sweat, it was just the right hike for this steamy day. 😀
