OLD TRIPS (1970-2008)

In late 2007, life conspired to suggest we put aside climbing and mountaineering in favor of dayhiking, backpacking, and other, less vertical, less gravity-afflicted outdoor pursuits. So here, just for the record, is a list of most of the summits reached between 1970 and 2007 (along with a few reached more recently).

… I am glad that I shall never be young without wild country to be young in. Of what avail are forty freedoms without a blank spot on the map?

  1. Well, a few years ago we planned a 2-week trip to do Gannett & Borah. The 48-mile roundtrip hike to Gannett plus bad weather (that cost us the summit) resulted in severe foot issues. We had to bail on trying Borah and I have yet to make it back for another try. I’ll be in touch via email about Cottonwood Falls. Coming in from the east might be shorter but not necessarily easier.

  2. WOW…..YOU HAVE BEEN BUSY…..did you miss Borah Peak in Idaho ? I summit-ted it 25 times…. its near Challis , Id. at 12,667 ft.
Would you be interested in helping me find a hiking trail to Cottonwood Falls near Thielson mountain from the east side following the river this summer? I think you did this hike from the west side starting at Diamond Lake . That is a long 14 mile hike that a lot of my hikers are unable to do. I am at this time the only hiking leader for meetup.com/southernoregonhappytrails…….. hans
