Dellenback Dunes Trail (Oregon Coast) 10-Aug-2021

The heat dome returned with a vengeance, ramming air temperatures well into the triple digits (103+°F / 39+°C). Then smoke from a host of local and not so local wildfires poured into our valley, taking air quality to startlingly (200+ AQI) unhealthy levels. It was not a good time to be outside. So it was pure luck on our part that we found ourselves on the Oregon coast, enjoying a few (too few) days of cool, clean, moist coastal air. 😁 We came home to find that little had changed – still too hot, still too smokey. 😒 But least we had those few days on the beach. We’ll always have Paris, etc.

Seven Devils & Bullards Beach (Oregon Coast) 09-May-2019

Our second day on the Oregon Coast started with a hike south to Fivemile Point from the Seven Devils State Recreation Area just north of Bandon. The attraction here is a long, long stretch of broad sandy beach and the chance to find agates exposed by the waves. The day was once again nicely sunny and, happily, a little less windy. This made for a pleasant stroll out-and-back along the beach.

Blackrock Point Loop (Oregon Coast) 07-Dec-2017

Having been granted a foul weather reprieve for one more dry visit to the Oregon Coast this year, we headed there to walk on the beach and enjoy a few short hikes. The third and last of these was a loop (5.5 miles roundtrip; 300 feet of elevation gain) – on a section of the Oregon Coast Trail (OCT) – from a trailhead at Cape Blanco State Airport to Blackrock Point  in the Floras Lake State Natural Area.  The viewless walk through the enveloping coastal forest was rewarded by expansive views from the Point and also from other viewpoints along the loop on yet another  bluebird day!  What a way to wrap-up our impromptu, but spectacular, visit to the coast in winter.
